Street Food goes Gourmet!

11 September 2018

From 29 August to 2 September, the Porto Antico di Genova played host to the Street Food Fest, the festival showcasing gourmet street food.
In the words of the philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach, «We are what we eat». It’s not just what we eat that’s important, however, but also how our food is presented and who prepares it. Our cities still have “cultural landscapes” to be discovered and defended. Street food is also the art of communication, since it takes eating out of the private and into the public sphere.”
This is the basis behind the fourth edition of the event. GICO was there for the entire duration of the festival, at the side of the Association CHIC – Charming Italian Chef. Every day, at the CHIC stand, the great chefs of the association took turns creating their interpretations of Street Food , thanks to GICO tables and induction plates.
Inside the food market, 4 CHIC members, the chefs Ivano Ricchebono, Roberto Rossi, Armando Beneduce and Emanuele Vallini tried their hand at “street creations”. At their side, at Eataly Genova ‘Il Marin’ restaurant’s stand, there was chef Marco Visciola, another member of CHIC, the association of which GICO is a proud partner.
Big names for big crowds, in an event that proved that even the simplest dishes require quality raw materials and equipment, and that you don’t have to go to a good restaurant to enjoy a gourmet meal. The creations of haute cuisine take to the streets and come to the people. Street Food draws from a rich vein of local traditions and customs, and is based on the concept of sharing. It’s the realest, most authentic food; that’s why it requires great care and excellent quality.
